AL A`LAQ (THE CLOT)
(Revealed at Mecca - contains 19 verses - 1 section)
Allah – beginning with the name of – the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
|
AYAT |
TRANSLATION |
|
1 |
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ |
|
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, |
|
|
2 |
خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ |
|
Created man from a clot. |
|
|
3 |
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ |
|
Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, |
|
|
4 |
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ |
|
The One Who taught to write with the pen. |
|
|
5 |
عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ |
|
The One Who taught man all what he did not know. |
|
|
6 |
كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ |
|
Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. |
|
|
7 |
أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ |
|
As he considers himself independent! |
|
|
8 |
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ |
|
Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. |
|
|
9 |
أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ |
|
What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – |
|
|
10 |
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ |
|
A bondman when he offers the prayer? |
|
|
11 |
أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ |
|
What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, |
|
|
12 |
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ |
|
He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! |
|
|
13 |
أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ |
|
What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! |
|
|
14 |
أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ |
|
Did he not realise that Allah is watching? |
|
|
15 |
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ |
|
Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. |
|
|
16 |
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ |
|
A forelock that lies, is sinful. |
|
|
17 |
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ |
|
So let him now call his gang! |
|
|
18 |
سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ |
|
We will now call the guards! |
|
|
19 |
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب ۩ |
|
Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) |
