AL GHASHIYAH (THE OVERWHELMING EVENT)

Allah – beginning with the name of – the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
AYAT |
TRANSLATION |
1 |
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ |
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! |
|
2 |
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ |
Many a face will be disgraced on that day. |
|
3 |
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ |
Labouring, striving hard. |
|
4 |
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً |
(Yet) Going into the blazing fire. |
|
5 |
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ |
Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. |
|
6 |
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ |
There is no food for them except thorns of fire. |
|
7 |
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ |
Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. |
|
8 |
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ |
Many a face will be in serenity on that day. |
|
9 |
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ |
Rejoicing over their efforts. |
|
10 |
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ |
In a high Garden. |
|
11 |
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً |
In which they will not hear any lewd speech. |
|
12 |
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ |
In it is a flowing spring. |
|
13 |
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ |
In which are high thrones. |
|
14 |
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ |
And chosen goblets. |
|
15 |
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ |
And arranged carpets. |
|
16 |
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ |
And linen spread out. |
|
17 |
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ |
So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? |
|
18 |
وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ |
And the heaven – how it has been raised? |
|
19 |
وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ |
And the mountains – how they have been established? |
|
20 |
وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ |
And the earth – how it has been spread out? |
|
21 |
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ |
Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) |
|
22 |
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ |
You are not at all a guardian over them. |
|
23 |
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ |
Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – |
|
24 |
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ |
So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. |
|
25 |
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ |
Indeed only towards Us is their return |
|
26 |
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم |
Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. |
