AL TARIQ (THE NIGHTLY ARRIVER)
(Revealed at Mecca – contains 17 verses – 1 section)
Allah – beginning with the name of – the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
AYAT | TRANSLATION |
---|---|
1 | وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ |
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. | |
2 | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ |
And have you understood what the nightly arriver is? | |
3 | النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ |
The very brightly shining star! | |
4 | إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ |
There is not a soul that does not have a guardian over it. | |
5 | فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ |
So man must consider from what he has been created. | |
6 | خُلِقَ مِن مَّاءٍ دَافِقٍ |
Created from a gushing fluid. | |
7 | يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ |
That is issued from between the backs and the ribs. | |
8 | إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ |
Indeed Allah is Able to return him. | |
9 | يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ |
A day when the secrets will be examined. | |
10 | فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ |
So man will neither have any strength nor any aide. | |
11 | وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ |
By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. | |
12 | وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ |
And by oath of the earth which cracks with it. (Brings forth vegetation or rivers gush forth due to rain) | |
13 | إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ |
Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. | |
14 | وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ |
And is not a matter of amusement. | |
15 | إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا |
Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. | |
16 | وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا |
And I secretly plan. | |
17 | فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا |
Therefore give them some respite – give them some time. | |
